Life isn’t all sunshine and smiles

Yesterday, I lost my iPhone and, therefore, my impression of humanity. You see, I’m a sunshine and happy days type. I nearly always have a smile on my face, and I’m always finding the silver lining. There’s good in everyone. And we all live in a safe place.

So, today, when I got to the gym and realized that I accidentally left my phone on the hood of my car, and it (shocker!) wasn’t there or in any bags or anywhere in the car, I turned around and drove home–retracing my drive. And while I didn’t find it on the drive home, I didn’t really expect it. I fully expected to find the phone still in my driveway or along my street where it fell off or in my mailbox.

Afterall, I live in a nice neighborhood. And I had a label with my Twitter handle (@JulieMPron) on my phone. So, of course, someone would leave it there.

Except, I pulled into my driveway, walked up and down the street around my home, and checked my mailbox, and it wasn’t there. Next, I checked my tweets to make sure a finder hadn’t tweeted me, called my phone 3 times, and searched through our pool bag, my purse, and my son’s backpack.

Nothing.

I drove around the block. I drove back to the gym. And back home. I called again to find no answer, at which point I suspended my phone.

My poor, patient kids had been sitting in the car for over 30 minutes at this point, so we went back to the gym for a swim, returned home again, checked my messages, checked in with my husband (who said he’d been calling all day) checked my tweets, unsuspended the phone, called my phone and… nothing.

Nothing. Every hour we checked the mailbox in case someone wanted to anonymously return the phone. We contacted the community center. Whitney suggested we look under the hood. We did. We went on a walk through the neighborhood twice. My husband redrove the route tonight.

No phone.

No answer.

There are mean people in the world, and they visit our neighborhoods. They might even live in them.

Mean.

Heartless.

Selfish.

People.

I hate that I have to know that and admit that. Even more, I hate every time my kids have to learn it.

Mean, mean people.

Note: Everyone is asking me what I’m going to do for a replacement. I’m not sure… I could buy a really inexpensive phone. I could upgrade and pay oodles. I could get a new 2 year contract. What would you do? Or… do you have an extra ATT phone I could borrow? Please? (begging…)
