Inspired by the March 2012 (yes, March 2012, that’s not a typo) issue of ShopSmart magazine, I asked colleagues what one item has changed their life and why. Figuring this would be a great opportunity to share some fabulous new products that make a difference in moms’ lives, I was surprised at some of the depth, as some of these Moms shared things in their lives, not just tangible items.
The only rule: Because I expected 90% of these women to say the iPhone, I took that option off the table. There were so many answers and so much insight that I’m breaking this up to several posts. I’ll share the second next week.
Sharon of Not Your Mom Blog: My first scrapbook kit was in 2001, after my son was born. Without it, I would have never started my first blog in 2006 or connected with other moms the way I have online.
Amy from Freaky Perfect: My passport. My travels have affected every aspect of my life. source: Arvind Balaraman
Jo-Lynne from Musings of a Housewife: Vibram Five Fingers
Candice of Fashionably Organized: The Baby Bargains book. Not only did it help me traverse the daunting shopping/registering for my first baby, but it also led to my very 1st online mommy group in 2004, which led me to make some of the best friends I’ve ever had and all over the country nonetheless. It was the catalyst for my love for socializing online. Incidentally, I believe that most of my online friends know more things and details about me than my IRL friends. I can tell you that my only mom’s friends are online.
Emily from Colorado Moms: The Vidalia Chop Wizard. No lie. Tear-free onions for the win!
Lee from Couple Dumb: The Upanishads… they changed my life, how I see things, and how I relate to G-d. They started me chanting, and I could manage my stress and fears.
Kadi from Our Seven Seeds: Piggies and Paws. It literally changed my life. It led me to Jenn and gave me the best friend anyone ever had.
Andrea from Lil Kid Things: the PedEgg!! I have the worst “Florida Feet” ever! That thing is awesome. I even told hubs I wanted a new one for Christmas, and he got it for me! Best as seen on the tv product ever.
Cecily from Uppercase Woman: Blogging. Before blogging, I was a poet. Blogging has given me everything.
Erin from A Parenting Production: My engagement ring. Reminds me every day of the love I’ve been lucky enough to find and cherish. Without it, without him, I would feel like something was missing.
Kelly from The Centsible Life: So many things to choose from. My TiVo tops the list. I love being able to record my favorite shows and watch them when I want. It was such a treat to straighten up, put the kids down for naps when they were little, and watch shows I could never stay up and watch. (I can’t help but mention that TiVo is currently 74% off at Amazon. It Retails for $299, and today it’s listed at $78.99.)
Tania at Pure Natural Diva: My Conair Infinity blowdryer. It is the best blow dryer ever, giving a near-professional blow-out that lasts me 5 or 6 days. It is the secret to more good hair days! (See Tania’s blowdrying tips.) (I have to add that I use this dryer, too, and it really is amazing.)
More life-changing products and things to come next week, including a sweet story about something a future husband did that will melt your heart and a story about a piece of fabric. But what I really want to know: is what item has changed your life?
