A major job of any parent is ensuring that their children are able to be as healthy as possible. There is so much that you need to be aware of here that it can be a real struggle to get it right. However, as with most things, it’s often best to start at home. If you have been wondering whether or not your home is healthy for your kids, take a look at the following. These are some of the major concerns you’ll need to think about.
Mold, Moss & More
One of the most common health hazards in any home is when there is an abundance of mold and moss and lichen and so on. If you have noticed that you have started to generate some of this in your home, it’s time to think about how you’re going to get rid of it. Generally that means getting rid of moisture, and it might be that you need to call someone out for water damage repair to help with that. You don’t want children breathing this stuff in, especially black mold, so be sure to clear it and keep it clear.
Air Quality
You should also try to ensure that the air quality in the home is kept as good as possible. Your children may well be breathing in any number of toxins otherwise, and over time these could cause all sorts of health issues. So you’ll need to check your ventilation regularly, any air filters they might have, and generally ensure you are keeping the air clear with lots of plants too. That is going to make it a much healthier home to be in for everyone, including your children.
Asbestos & Historical Problems
Although you should be able to expect your home to be asbestos-free, if it is made before a certain time it might well be that you do still have some somewhere. It might be buried in the garden or in the walls or attic, but if you come across it you’ll need to get rid of it as soon as possible, because it can be extremely harmful to humans, leading to cancer that can in turn lead to death. Clearly, it’s not something you want in your home, so make sure you are certain you don’t have any at all, or get rid of it professionally if you do find any.
Carbon Monoxide
Carbon monoxide is a killer because it is invisible and odorless, and yet it can cause death in a very short space of time. Even before that it can cause hallucinations, strange thinking, confusion, and nausea. Make sure you have a CO alarm in your home, and that you check the batteries regularly – and do all you can to keep the chances of CO in the home as low as possible. That, again, is really important for every member of your household, especially the children.
