A few months ago, Middle and the Huz spent the day at the Special Olympics at the University of Delaware. The purpose was two-fold: expose Middle to a swim meet before he joined the swim team and to show him that there are kids and people in the world who face challenges we can barely imagine. People just like you and me, but remarkably different. Middle came home that day, wanting to do something. “How can I help kids who need it?” he asked.

Last fall, I visited Nemours/AI DuPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware. The bloggers’ day visit opened my eyes to a warm, loving place, just 25 minutes from home. It might have been one of the most emotional and difficult blogging experiences of my social media career. It was definitely one of the most comforting.

There was a connection there. I realized, even then, that I didn’t want to end the relationship with just one post. I wanted to do more. And now, with my son asking to help, I reached out.

Today, we’ll be joining the Nemours Foundation Help Our Kids Radiothon. Through tomorrow, they’re raising funds for the foundation, which directly benefits the hospital… and the children.

Nemours is hitting the airwaves with its third annual Help Our Kids Radiothon, presented by Nemours Fund for Children’s Health and generously sponsored by Delmarva Broadcasting.

Seven local radio stations will be broadcasting from the hospital with on-air personalities interviewing patients and families, physicians, nurses, volunteers, and others.

The kids and I will be making crafts for children who aren’t able to join in the activities. We’ve packed up our Rainbow Looms, Duck Tape, foam door hangers, stickers, and photo frames to spend some time crafting for someone else: the kids who will benefit from a little something made with love.

Already this morning, the event has raised $21,271. And there are many ways you can help:

  • Call toll-free: 1-855-NEMOURS
  • Make an online donation
  • Help raise additional funds

Craft with your kids

Tomorrow, I’ll share pictures and ideas of crafts we created. You and your kids can join in the fun from home, or you can host a crafting session at your place of worship or school. Children love helping children, and it’s so very easy to make a few crafts and send them to your local children’s hospital or ours.

Online games and apps can be fantastic tools for children to learn and develop new skills. These platforms’ interactive and engaging nature makes learning fun and enjoyable for kids. After putting educational apps into my child’s daily routine, I’ve seen a big improvement in how well they solve problems and think critically. As technology advances, children will have more opportunities to learn and grow through online games and apps. Thank you for sharing this valuable information.

I agree with everything you said in your comment about how online games and apps can help kids learn. These resources provide a fun and interactive way for children to learn and develop new skills. With the increasing popularity of technology, it’s great to see that it can be used positively to support education. It’s important to keep an eye on the content and make sure it’s appropriate for the child’s age and level of development, but online games and apps can be a great way to help a child learn.
