Designed yourself a summer house? Now you should focus on creating a summer garden. Of course, as long as there’s plenty of shade and you can keep cool, where you’re surrounded by pretty plants, you’ll already be well on your way to having a summer garden. There’s just one crucial element missing now: water! Install any one (or a combination) of the water features below and you’ll never want to head back inside again!
Pond
A pond is a classic garden feature, and it’s one of the best to feature in your own backyard space. Ponds are small and manageable by their very nature, and if you fit a pump and get some plant life growing in there, you could have all kinds of critters visiting come spring! Frogs and toads, newts and salamanders, turtles and buzzing insects – all kinds of wildlife will call your pond their home at some point through the seasons.
Hot Tub
A water feature that makes every property the best place to be, a hot tub will always be a great addition to a summer garden. Depending on how hot you’ve set the water to be, you can dip in for around 15 to 30 minutes at a time. Save your dips for the later evenings when it’s a bit cooler and you’ll really get the benefit!
And don’t worry about keeping the tub clean either. You can call in a hot tub cleaning company whenever you need them, and in the meantime, keep it covered and as dry as possible. Trust us, hot tubs are easier to take care of than pools!
Mini Waterfall
You don’t need to bring the Niagara Falls into your garden, but a mini waterfall will definitely look and sound the part this summer time! Mini waterfalls can be fitted wherever you see fit and provide a constant water loop, or you could even connect it to the ground and create a little stream that feeds back into itself. The possibilities are endless, and you can end up building whatever kind of feature you like! It might take a bit of DIY expertise, but it’s nothing you can’t pick up as you experiment.
Pool
We mentioned that pools can be quite hard to take care of, and that’s true – the upkeep can be a bit tricky. However, they’re the most functional water feature you can add to a garden, as long as you’ve got the space.
Whether you’re fitting one in the ground as a permanent feature or you’ve bought an inflatable one from the store just for the summer, we highly recommend a pool for keeping cool during the hottest days of the year. Slather on the sun cream, fill your glasses with refreshing lemonade, and then spend as long as you like splashing around!
If you want a summer garden that looks and feels cool, get a water feature in there! They’re easier to incorporate than you think, especially if you’ve got some room.
