Disney Classics Box Set
Product Description: “From The Studio’s earliest days, music has always been an integral part of the Disney creative process. But when ‘Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf’ debuted in 1933, it began a musical legacy that remains unmatched to this day. Disney Classics Box Set is a music collection that represents this legacy.”
Julieverse says: Reviewed a few weeks ago on Julieverse, this CD Box Set will be loved by anyone who has ever had a connection to Disney (and, really, that leaves about 1% of my readership out of this category.) Four CDs of nearly 100 Disney classics (check out the full list of songs here) to sing out loud on your next road trip means songs you love enough to hear again and again… but not so frequently that you’ll tire of them.
Today, Disney Classics Box Set is listed for only $33.46 on Amazon.com. That’s a great price!
WD TV Live Media Player Wi-fi 1080p
Product Description: Play your movies, music, and photos in virtually any file format, including MKV, MOV, AVI, and ISO/VOB. Stream the latest online entertainment from Netflix, YouTube, Pandora, and more. Enjoy it all on your TV in brilliant 1080p.
Julieverse says: If your giftee’s family doesn’t have an online streaming service, it’s time to introduce them to one as it will change their lives, especially if they’re huge TV and movie fans. With a streaming system like WD TV Live hooked up to the TV and wifi, viewers have access to thousands of shows at a fraction of the price through online memberships like Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon Prime, plus hundreds of other subscription services and free shows as well.
The current sale price is listed at $80.98 (down from $120.99!) at Amazon. Be sure to enter to win one below!
Kindle (or Nook)
Julieverse says: I am still blown away that my husband doesn’t have an e-reader and probably try to convince him, monthly, to get one. Maybe weekly. I love that I can download another book in seconds and that so many are available through the library. Even my boys now have Kindles! With so many choices available, I’m not sure how to tell you which to choose… but Kindle and Nook seem to be the most popular. I suppose it depends on brand loyalty and where you shop most. And what you’re looking for. I use the Kindle Paperwhite while my boys have the basic Kindle “Touch.” The difference, besides about $50, is that the Paperwhite has a back-light and the “touch” doesn’t—because I don’t feel my boys need to read without the light on, but I do so that I don’t distract my husband while he sleeps.
Click here for a video review of the Kindle Paperwhite.
The basic Kindle starts at $69; Kindle Paperwhite is $119; the Kindle DX, which is larger, is $179. If you’d rather the Kindle Fire, prices range from $139-379 and more.
Movie Gift Card
Julieverse says: I love that you can buy gift cards online, and movie theater gift cards are a big fave of people who love going to the movies (my dad, for one, prefers this gift over all others.) while you can purchase gift cards in any increment at the theater, you can usually pick them up for $25 or $50 online or at a grocery store. They also make great small-value gift cards for people like your mailman, teacher, or coach.
One word of caution—make sure that the giftee lives near the theater chain you select. I once received a gift card to a theater 90 minutes from my house. It was never used.
Tickets to a Broadway, off-Broadway, Traveling Broadway or local theater show
If my review of ONCE inspired you, then run a quick search to see when it’s playing in your town and grab a pair of tickets. Seeing a Broadway show is a great night of entertainment. (Bonus, if you get 2 tickets, you can take the giftee, so it’s like you both win!) If you’re in the Philadelphia area, check the Kimmel Center’s Broadway Philadelphia page for a listing of other shows coming to our area. I’ll be reviewing quite a few of them in the coming months.
Check your local theater to see if you can gift a card to the series, rather than a specific show and date, so that your giftee can determine the best dates and what she wants to see. Additionally, because most seasons begin in the fall, look for discounted half-season tickets or passes.
Lenovo Yoga Tablet
- Product description: A better way is here. Introducing the Lenovo Yoga Tablet. The world’s first multimode tablet. The revolutionary 10.1″ multimode Yoga Tablet 10 shatters the mold in tablet design to create a device that’s more versatile and comfortable to use than anything that’s come before — all with epic battery life.
- Julieverse says: I would not have known to recommend these tablets had I not been given the tablets as samples as a part of the #LenovoMoms program. I’ve been using both the 8- and 10- inch for a few weeks now, and I’m completely swayed (except that, sadly, there are still a few apps that I love that are available for iOS only. If it weren’t for those few exclusive apps, I’d be able to completely switch to the Lenovo Yoga and retire my iPad! (I know… I can’t believe I’m saying that either!) It’s what I’m carrying with me wherever I go lately. I love the versatility! Read about how I’m using them here.
Currently priced at:
- With the discount, Yoga Tablet 8 prices: 8bG is $249 (down from $269); 16gB is $269 (MSRP $299);
- With the discount, Yoga Tablet 10 prices: 16GB is $279 (regularly $299); 32 GB is $309 (MSRO $339)
- (use code BETTERWAY for the discounts on Lenovo’s website.)
