Around 90% of homes in the US are under-insulated, which means many homeowners and, indeed, rental properties are missing out on the numerous benefits insulation can add to a property.

Insulation can be added to your home in various ways, such as cavity wall and attic insulation, floor insulation, pipe insulation, and window and door insulation to name a few. The process typically involves a professional assessment of your home’s insulation needs, followed by the installation of the chosen insulation type. The absence of these could be why your home doesn’t feel as comfortable as it could. This post explores the benefits of increasing home insulation to enhance your living environment.

Reduced Energy Bills

Energy waste is rampant in the US, and many older homes are considered to be energy vampires. If you have seemingly excessive energy bills or it takes more than expected to regulate the temperature of your home, it’s a dead giveaway that your home doesn’t have enough or the right level of insulation. Any energy you are using is simply being wasted and escaping via the extremities of the building. By adding or improving insulation, you could potentially save, on average, around 15% on your home heating and cooling bills over the year, according to data from Energy Star. This can be instrumental in reducing your energy bills.

Reduces Heat Loss

As touched upon above, homes with little or no insulation will simply let heat escape through walls, floors, windows, etc. Adding insulation to your home can help you add a barrier to your building that traps heat and stops it from escaping through walls, roofs, or floors, for example. This, in turn, supports lower energy bills as you won’t need to use as much energy to heat your home.

Lower Environmental Impact

Homes that consume more energy are less energy efficient; this goes without saying. So, adding insulation can help you to increase the eco credentials of your home and allow you to become more sustainable. If you’re concerned about your carbon footprint and your overall consumption from simply living your life, then you can use a well-insulated home to power this consumption. By choosing eco-friendly insulation materials; talk to local insulation companies about your options, you’re not just reducing your energy consumption but also contributing to a greener, more sustainable future. It’s a small step that can make a big difference.

More Comfortable To Live In

Insulation doesn’t just keep your home warm when it’s cold, and you heat it; it regulates the temperature more efficiently, so it essentially keeps your house at a more comfortable temperature to live in. It achieves this as insulation reduces the movement of heat, thus improving energy efficiency and achieving a more regulated temperature throughout the year. Imagine coming home to a consistently comfortable environment, no matter the weather outside. That’s the power of insulation.

Not only this, but good-quality insulation can also help with moisture control. This can inhibit condensation, reducing the impact dampness and excessive moisture in the home can cause.

If you feel that your home isn’t as efficient as it could be, the answer to your heating woes could be improving your insulation levels for a more comfortable home.
