Planning a career change can be a scary, even overwhelming thought. You go from something you know to something that could be completely different. However, this could also be the best decision of your life as you finally get to do something you want. Your new workplace matters just as much as the experience and professional progression you can enjoy. So how do you know whether your new workplace is right for you?

The Atmosphere Feels Positive

Some businesses struggle to get their work culture right. A toxic work environment is usually associated with an autocratic approach from management that demands too much from the team. However, the reverse can also be true. Too much freedom and a lackadaisical approach could affect productivity. There needs to be a balance where the atmosphere feels positive without feeling fake or forced. You should be able to recognize this as soon as you start, which can help you settle and find your way around the company.

People Are Engaged

Similarly, your coworkers are all engaged in their work. This point typically comes from work that’s challenging but not too overwhelming. Furthermore, tedious tasks are automated, so everyone can stay on task for as long as required without feeling like they need to stuff too much into their workday, which can become too much and make people struggle to manage their time efficiently.

The Office Is Accessible

Even if you don’t live with mobility or sensory conditions, an office that prioritizes those that do highlights how much they care about inclusivity, which can only be a good thing. During your visits before taking the job, look for evidence of accessibility protocols, such as quality commercial railings, appropriate lighting, and an office layout that promotes easy mobility. These factors are crucial for ensuring a comfortable experience for everyone.

Everyone Communicates Well

Communication is crucial for any successful company. Therefore, witnessing exceptional communication to ensure respect and better understanding is vital. You don’t want to work somewhere everyone barks orders at one another, but you also don’t want to work for a company that is vague about project requirements. Again, it’s about finding the perfect balance for communication. Everyone should know what they need to do and not feel awkward asking for help or clarification if needed.

Time Flies

You may not notice how time flies during your interview and pre-start visits. But if time flies once you finally start work, you know you’ve arrived at the right place. As much as work is about working, you also want to have fun and enjoy your time there. Still, you can’t horse around. There are still projects to be completed and campaigns to plan, but if you enjoy doing all of this, it won’t feel like a work day.

The Right Place

A new job and career can intimidate you, but finding a workplace that is the perfect fit for you can make your transition much easier. You’ll feel comfortable and supported, and you may even discover what a truly non-toxic office feels like, which will make every other experience much more enjoyable.
