If you want to improve your writing skills, or you are just a keen reader and you’d like to widen out what you are reading, it’s good to know how to get hold of some strong recommendations for what to read. This is something of a skill in itself, and you will find that you often need to try and do all you can to keep things moving if you are going to keep up the momentum with your reading. With that in mind, here are some ideas for where you might be able to find recommendations for great things to read.

The Library

If you are stuck on what to read next, you will find that going to the library is a pretty good first step to take. Often just browsing the shelves will show up something that you might want to take out, or you might even want to ask the librarian about a book they might recommend. If you tell them the kind of thing you tend to enjoy, they should be able to point you in roughly the right direction, so this is something that you should certainly try for yourself.

Friends

Of course, it helps to have friends who also like to read. If you have such people in your life, then make use of them, and ask them what they are reading at the moment and what they might recommend. You should be able to get a lot of recommendations this way, and this is often enough to set you on a new path with your reading, so it’s certainly something that you might want to think about. It could be that this makes a huge difference to how much you are reading too, which is another great thing.

New Genres

If you want to expand what you are reading, you might consider trying out a new genre from time to time. This is a great way to make sure that you are keeping your own reading as wide as possible. You might want to think about trying out something that you have either never read before or which is still relatively new to you at least. That’s generally a great approach to take. It might mean reading some medieval fantasy books or something else altogether, which is great if it’s new to you and opens you up a little.

Blogs

Of course, these days there are lots of literature blogs too, and you may want to think about some of these as well. If you go online you will find that there are plenty of places to read about reading, and there you should be able to get some pretty interesting ideas around what to read next. With this, you can then hope to open up and widen your reading repertoire, which is a great thing to be able to do.
