A lot of beauty comes naturally. A lot of beauty also comes with preparation! And when you want to get made up, do your hair, and look amazing for a special occasion, you need to get these basics down right.
Of course, the way you look is all up to personal style, but every kind of quality beauty routine has a few things in common. And once you know you’re ticking all the boxes on the steps down below, you can experiment with your beauty as much as you like, without needing to worry about how your skin, hair follicles, or lips will handle it!
Drink Plenty
Have you had at least two glasses of water today? If you want to know how to moisturize dry skin, this will always be the best place to start! Drink plenty throughout the day – the number of liters will vary per person – and always have either a glass or a bottle nearby.
Take a refillable version when you head out, take plenty of water breaks when you’re working out, and think about downing a glass of ice cool water first thing in the morning after waking up. And if you really don’t like the taste of water, feel free to add a few drops of juice cordial or even a squeeze of lemon.
Exfoliate, But Not Too Much
It’s a good idea to exfoliate your skin around once a week, or two to three times if you’re dealing with a more oily type. However, if you exfoliate more often than this, you could be doing your skin a major disservice. Indeed, the more we remove oils from our skin, the more our skin wants to put them back.
Of course, an overproduction of these oils will cause a lot of blemishes, so the more you scrub them off, the more they’re going to build up. Be careful with an exfoliator, even when it’s a gentle version – you don’t want to create more harm than good in the pursuit of soft, well cared for skin!
Consider Using a Toner
Not everyone needs to use a toner, but it’s a good addition to a skincare routine when you’re worried about your pores. Toners are good for smoothing out the last of the dirt that could be caked into them, and helps to soothe the aggression an exfoliator can rub into the face.
Toners are primarily good to use during the summer time, when the hot weather makes you sweat. If you want a deep cleanse that isn’t going to upset your skin’s pH balance too much, it’s best to have a toner available in your beauty box at all times. Use it sparingly and you won’t have to spend too much on a new product too soon either!
Focus On Oral Health
It’s really important that you are doing everything you can to keep your oral health in tact. After all, this is directly related to your general health, and so anything you can do to improve this is going to be good for your health and therefore your beauty too.
Luckily, it’s simple enough to make sure you are doing this right. The main thing is to get in touch with a good dentist and ensure that you go for check-ups every six months at least. Then it’s just a case of getting them professionally cleaned by the hygienist, and of course cleaning them yourself at home with your normal routine.
This should be a major part of your beauty routine, so make sure it is.
Eat for Skin Health
If you’re drinking enough, you should be eating enough as well. There are hundreds of different ingredients you can throw into a dish to help your skin, but you’ll find the right nutrients in various types of ‘colorful’ vegetables. Bold and bright is best!
Don’t just eat green varieties here, though leafy greens are good for pretty much everything. Throw in reds, yellow, and orange veggies as well, and some pink and purple fruits too. The more colorful a certain food is, the more cell boosting vitamins and minerals it’s going to pack.
And if you like sweet potatoes, we’ve got very good news for you. It’s one of the best skin enriching foods in the world, so eat as much of them as you like!
Don’t Forget Scent
Not necessarily a step in a skincare routine, but it does form part of your beauty routine as a whole. The way you smell adds a lot to your beauty! And whether you have a signature scent or you like playing with different scents, make sure you always do a spritz or two before you walk out the door.
Scent is memorable. If you want to leave an impression, smelling good is the way forward! Make sure you hit behind the ears, the wrists, and dab some on the ends of your hair too.
A good beauty routine starts with a good foundation. So treat your skin well, drink plenty, eat plenty of the right nutrients, and top it all off with a lovely scent. Try out some new products, have fun with your routine and any makeup you want to apply, and keep sipping on that glass of water!
