Update: Thank you to everyone who participated in Thank a Teacher Day. I’m keeping a date open. Will we need to do it again? Let’s hope not. If we continue to say thank you more often, to show appreciation more easily, we won’t need to. We’ll revisit next December, with a tentative date of December 16.
In our rushed world, we rarely have an opportunity to show our appreciation for those who spend 6 hours a day with our children. Those who give of their time and brilliant minds to help our own children to stay safe, comfortable, loved, and to help them grow.
Despite the impact teachers make worldwide, the profession has faced countless issues over the years. These issues are familiar to many and can sometimes be disheartening. From worker shortage to inadequate remuneration and unfavorable workload, several reasons account for why teachers are quitting the profession. In our small ways, we can highlight teachers’ significant contributions to our children’s education and appreciate their time, commitment, and resilience. It’s all about finding creative yet memorable ways to communicate our gratitude. This way, no matter the challenges teachers face, they’ll know it’s all worth it and that their time and effort are appreciated.
On Monday, December 17, take a moment and thank a teacher. Send her an email, a card, a bouquet of flowers. Create a “thank you” bulletin board. Offer to help from home. Make time to volunteer in the classroom.
Take a few minutes in your day and connect with your favorite teacher or your child’s teacher. It’s simple; just tell him or her “thank you.”
