Why Going to College Doesn’t Need to Feel Like an Impossible Dream

Oh college, in all honesty, just hearing the word can feel like a lot. It’s exciting, it’s nerve-wracking, and to be honest, it’s expensive. But really, who hasn’t dreamt of going back to school? It’s way more common than you’d think it would be anyway. But there are other things to think about too.

So, between the tuition, housing, books, and snacks (because you can’t study without snacks), the whole thing might seem like a pipe dream. Plus, tuition is sadly rising too, and it’s rising at such high rates than ever before.

But here’s the truth: college doesn’t have to be some far-off fantasy. Sure, that sounds easier said than done, right? It’s not about having the perfect situation or loads of cash in the bank. It’s about knowing there are options and creating a path that works for you. No, really, it’s absolutely true!

Yes, College is Expensive, But It’s Not Out of Reach

Okay, it’s best to just call it like it is, college costs a lot. Tuition feels like you’re buying a small island, textbooks are priced like they’re printed in gold, and even the basics like dorm rooms can burn through your savings. But here’s the thing: expensive doesn’t mean impossible. There are so many ways to chip away at the costs. Scholarships are one of the best tools out there, and you don’t have to be a genius or a star athlete to get one.

No, really, it’s true! There are scholarships for everything, your hobbies, your background, your field of interest. Some are super specific, like being left-handed or really into knitting. Sure, these sound weird, but they do exist. You might already know about this one, but financial aid is another big help. For example, there are grans, there’s the work-study program, and there are so many other resources too.

Actually, a great example would be Ascent student loans since they can help fill the gap, giving you the financial boost you need to make college a reality.

Employers Still Want That Degree

Alright, so here’s the reality check that people really need to sync in, employers still care about degrees. It’s not just about getting a job; it’s about having options and opportunities. Even trade jobs, ones that feel like they skip the college route, often require certifications or trade school, and those aren’t free either.

Just look at it this way; a degree tells employers you’ve put in the time, learned the skills, and followed through on something challenging. It’s not just a piece of paper; it’s proof that you’re ready for the next step.

It’s Okay to Go at Your Own Pace

Now this one just can’t be stressed enough! College isn’t a race. You should reread that again. Not everyone can, or should, do the full-time, four-year sprint. Life happens. Finances get tight. Responsibilities come up. Taking a slower path doesn’t make the goal any less valid. There is nothing wrong with taking it slow either. Some people go part-time, others will skip semesters, and all of that is totally okay.
