As temperatures begin to rise, your skin will face a new set of challenges. The shift from dry winter air to having sun-soaked summer days can cause clogged pores and even sunburns if you are not being careful.

It doesn’t matter if you are planning a beach vacation or just enjoying longer days outdoors, having a proper summer skincare routine is going to be essential for keeping your skin glowing.

Switch to Lighter Products

During summer, heavy creams as well as thick moisturizers can feel very suffocating and it may even clog your pores. You should opt for lighter, gel-based moisturizers.

Try out serums that will hydrate your skin without weighing it down. Ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and aloe vera will provide moisture while helping your skin to stay breathable and refreshed.

Sunscreen is Non-Negotiable

If there is one step that you should never skip, it is the application of sunscreen. A broad-spectrum SPF of at least 30 or higher will protect your skin from any harmful UVA and UVB rays.

This can lead to sunburn, premature aging, and in more severe cases even skin cancer. Reapply your sunscreen every two hours.

This is especially important if you are sweating profusely or swimming. Try not to forget areas such as your ears, neck, and even the top of your feet, and try not to leave any area uncovered.

Hydration Inside and Out

The sun and heat from it can dehydrate your skin very quickly. You should drink plenty of water throughout the day.

Also try to incorporate water-rich fruits such as watermelon, cucumber, and oranges into your diet whenever you can.

On the outside, apply hydrating mists and sheet masks as this will give your skin an extra moisture boost. This is especially good after you have had a period of long sun exposure.

Watch for Circulatory Changes

Summer heat can cause blood vessels to expand, which can lead to a lot of visible skin changes. For some, this may include having mild swelling in the ankles or the appearance of spider veins.

While it is generally thought to be harmless, spider veins can be a big cosmetic concern. They are sometimes triggered by having prolonged sun exposure.

They may even happen when someone is standing for long periods. Wearing compression stockings or simply elevating your legs after a long day is a good way to help reduce their appearance.

Glow Up This Summer

Summer can definitely be a wonderful time to allow your skin the chance to breathe and glow. However, you must take the necessary steps to ensure you are protecting it.

Make sure that you lighten up your skincare products, and try to stay hydrated as much as possible. You should try to shield yourself from the sun, and always keep an eye out for changes such as spider veins and sunspots.

By making just a few thoughtful adjustments, your skin is going to look and feel its best all season long. You will never have to worry about losing that glow.
