My footsteps… will my daughter follow?

I dreamed, for years, of being a cheerleader. Perhaps because of the attention. Or the drama. Or the fact that fairy tales make us out to be so perfect. This isn't a surprise for most. I'm not perfect, but I'm spirited, usually have a positive outlook and am very enthusiastic. Here's a big surprse (not), I was a cheerleader. Freshman through Senior years in high school, that was me, showing off my braces, yelling for the Cards. You remember right? I was Miss "Go UD!" My school could do no … [Read more...]

Join Yahoo!'s Kindness Chain… what will you do?

I'm joining Yahoo! for Good in their Ripples of Kindness. As a member of the Y! Motherboard, I was invited to start a ripple,  using the $100 they sent me to get it started. This is not an opportunity to give to charity. This is an opportunity to make someone's day as a surprise. To do something kind to make them smile. Each time I do something, I'll also give them a Yahoo! card with Yahoo!'s Kindness website on it, and an explanation of the program. I'm really excited to be involved. … [Read more...]

Crafting with kids: Thankful Turkeys

This was a hit each year in the classroom when we did it with our kindergarten buddies. This year I made them with my 1st grader and pre-Kindergartner. This activity is exactly at their level, and I was so proud of Middle, when he wrote his Thankful feathers on his own. I'm fairly certain you'll have everything you need in your home, so no need to rush out to the store for this activity. You can even do it on Thanksgiving! You'll need, per turkey: toilet paper roll construction paper: 1 … [Read more...]

31 Days of Pink comes to an end

Its been an interesting thing to be a part of, 31 Days of Pink. It started out as a fun challenge: "Will I remember to do it? Will I be able to wear pink for 31 Days? Will people notice a pattern?" And for the first two weeks or so, I had a great time. I found about 14 different tops, and vlogged each one. The vlogging part actually helped me, on a personal level. It helped to make me more comfortable with vlogging and seeing myself on video. But, of course, that wasn't the point of this … [Read more...]

Back to a New School, with Parenting Jitters

Image by Editor B via Flickr Big starts 1st grade this month at a new school. He already knows a few of the kids, but he's nervous, and so am I. I started first grade as a new student, too. I entered the room (mid-year) knowing no one. I remember my dad holding me as the teacher came over to greet me. And the next week, I sat in the front row with 10 new friends vying for my attention. Most of the class befriended me right away. Being new in school in first grade is cool. You're … [Read more...]
