It’s clock work, a week after a kid’s birthday and it’s already time for them to find a new toy they want. When my kids start in, my answer is always the same “put it on your list.”
For a while, saying that was enough. But as the kids got older, they started to ask to see their lists, to change their lisst and to add to their lists. Pretty soon, their list had become theirs, and no longer the mine, to keep. Rightly, the kids wanted total control.
Around here, that’s fine with me. The more the kids can manage something like a wish list, the less I have to do. Especially this time of year.
Every November, we lay out stacks of catalogs and the kids watch plenty of commercials. It’s always “I want!” and “I need!” and “add that to my list!” When I allow the kids to control their lists, they can add and subtract wants all they desire which teaches them priorities. They know they won’t receive every toy on their wish list, so they learn to prioritize and analyze what they really want.
There are dozens of places to create a wishlist online, and, recently, we’ve been playing around with the Virtual Piggy Wishlist. Virtual Piggy is a website program that allows parents to deposit money into kids’ accounts and kids can save money or spend on the things they want.
The Virtual Piggy Wishlist program is simple: set up your kids as child-members (within your parent account) and allow them to set up a wishlist of everything they want. As the kids save money, they’ll be able to make purchases from their lists.
Your kid could win his Wishlist!
In the spirit of the holidays, Virtual Piggy is hosting a Win Your Wishlist event.
Here’s how to enter:
- Register your parent account, then have your child log into the child account you set up for them.
- From their account, kids can add items to their Wishlist, either within Virtual Piggy itself or with the easy to use browser plugin. As soon as they do, they’ll be automatically entered into the Sweepstakes!
- Your child can fill their Wishlist with whatever items they want, not just from Virtual Piggy merchants. Virtual Piggy is still building up the Virtual Piggy service, so when your child adds products to their Wishlist, it lets them know what to add as we continue to grow.
- You can set up multiple child accounts in our system, one for each child in your family. Each child will be eligible to win.
Ten lucky kids (ages 6 and up eligible) who fill out a Wishlist will receive all the products they enter (up to $500), so give it a try! Help your kids set up their wishlists on Virtual Piggy before December 7 to be entered to win.
