Last month’s issue of ShopSmart magazine included a little blurb that everyone needs a navy dress.
Oh, yes. She does. I thought. And then I took pause. Oh, no. I don’t have one.
And so went my obsession with finding a versatile navy dress that could be worn dressed up or down and for various occasions.
Eventually, my love for (and the fit of) Lilly Pulitzer won out and I purchased the Helena dress in navy:
What I love about it is that it’s so versatile. I can pair it with a fashion scarf or blazer and fun necklace for work-related meetings.
For an upcoming wedding, I’ll wear the dress with a gold pashmina and gold shoes. And for a day out with friends, I’ll throw on a more casual jacket, like a denim jacket, to dress it down.

I’ve been on a mission to find a navy dress but hubby does not like the color so I might just give up the search!

…or you dress for you and not him
But, I get it. My husband hated when I got my hair colored with red highlights so I stopped.
But, seriously. The color is a basic, neutral. It’s how you accessorize it (nearly anything but black works) that makes the look.

I do have a navy dress, and I love it! It is great b/c it isn’t as harsh as black, but it can serve the same purpose – dress it up or down, make it colorful or plain, and as sad as this is, I have had 3 funerals recently, and it is perfect for that too.

I don’t have a navy dress, but I do have a navy skirt, pants and 2 sweaters. Not quite but almost there.
