What to buy at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

So, I have this friend, we’ll call her Katrina (she knows her real name… so do a lot of our mutual friends). Anyway, Katrina happens to be a Nordstrom card holder and she’s “kind of addicted” to the sale. She’s been there… a lot the past week, sneaking into the private, tented area. She was shocked that I didn’t have a card and, therefore, couldn’t attend the preview. I’ll tell you. It was hard. I nearly caved and applied for a card just yesterday.

But I held out and while Katrina shopped, I focused on what I want to buy come Friday, July 20 that will be hot this fall.

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2012 Fall Style Guide

Look for bits of leather highlights on a trench-coat style like leather sleeves or a belt mixed with a canvas or, for cooler temps, wool. Coats (as well as jackets, blouses and dresses) will have a Peplum–an over-skirt or ruffle around the waistline. Trench coats are an easy way to pull in the Peplum look.

Also in style will be big coats this winter–similar to those men wear. But when done in a bright color, they’re feminine.

If you’re looking for a print, look for python which you should bring in as a surprise. Python makes a great accessory in a shoe or handbag.

Block Graphics

Last fall focused on color blocking and we’ll be seeing more of it this year. This will be especially easy to find in pencil skirts and dresses.

Pencil Skirts

If you’re dressing up  even just a bit, you’ll want a pencil skirt this fall. Bring in modern graphics with your skirts and, if you’re bold, pair them up with brightly colored tights.

Boots are showing again this fall with heels and without, in all different sizes and shapes. You’ll definitely want a pair of caramel boots. Adornments on both Riding and Work boots dress them up a bit. Or bring your love for python into your boot selection. You’ll see mostly stacked heels and flats.

Bulky capes and wraps will adorn shoulders throughout the fall in dark grays and blacks. But if you want a bit of color, look for a fitted, button striped-color blocked sweater that buttons and reaches below the waist. There’s a mix of drapy, bulky and fitted this year–just about everything goes.

Beyond Boots: pumps and flats

There will be a plenty to choose from this year for dressing up your feet. Jeweled flats and colorful pumps both will fill the shoes shop.

There’s a lot more delicate jewelry this fall than last. Narrow chained necklaces with small adornments can be doubled and tripled. Thinner bracelets can be stacked together and wrapped bracelets will continue to be worn, just with more narrow bands. Earrings are a jeweled or they’re polished gold and silver (mostly mixing the 2) – posts, drops and hoops are all adorning ears. But bold is still in style as well. Large bangles and big gems will also be seen.

Nordstrom always works with their cosmetic companies to create exclusive anniversary sale offers. The M-A-C “Illustrated – Pink x3″ lip color and bag by Julie Verhoeven looks to be a great deal that will be easy to learn and used by everyone this fall.
