This week, I was charged with finding a black dress for an event where all attendees were asked to wear black. Do you know how hard this assignment was for me?! I mean, it’s not like I don’t love a black dress, especially accessorized correctly. I’ve even written about it in the past (see Dressing up a little black dress). But about two years ago I made a promise to myself that I wouldn’t buy black, as I wanted to introduce more color into my closet. For two years now, I’ve turned away from most black clothing (which is ironic because I’m wearing a black top as I write this post.) Of course, there’s always an abundance of black clothing in stores, so finding something wasn’t hard. But getting myself to the point of making that purchase was difficult difficult because… it was black. I was breaking a rule.
But, then. I had a chance to do my favorite thing: accessorize. I went back and forth between boring black pumps, shoes with a little gold in them, and a bright colored shoe. For the event, I opted to go for closed toed shoes (with a little gold) because it’s still too cold to wear open-toed shoes in Philadelphia and New York. But the next time I wear the dress I’ll do it with brightly colored sandals or fancy flip-flops.
As for accessories, I grabbed a brightly colored wrap for warmth and glamour and paired it up with gold jewelry… and you’ll just have to wait to see the final look in my event review next Friday.
(By-the-way, I love the dress I selected. I am so going back and purchasing it in other colors!)
Thanks to Bounce and Devries for providing a stipend for my new black dress.

What I like in black dress is that I can play with colors for accessories and it looks great. That is why I have two or three black dress in my closet a must have for women. ^_^
Kim,USA
definitely. You can show absolutely any mood in a black dress. Cheers to accessories!
I can’t wait to see your pulled together look for the event! I’m drooling over all the bright blue shoes and accessories. They just scream Springtime to me.
I have green shoes and orange shoes and pink shoes galore… But aqua or turq shoes? Need …
I love how black dresses are so versatile – you can really dress it up with gold or have fun with bold accessories!!
Gold and/or bold. Love having a choice.
stop teasing! where’s the dress?
Awesome choices, but I’ll be honest I like the shoes you chose the most. Not the point of the post, but they’re my fave.
I love the shoes I wore, too. Though pain by the end of the night for sure!
I love all the accessories and shoes you have shown! I’ll take one of each, thank you!
Great blog- found you from Fashion Friday link up!
Me too! That’s what makes fashion Friday so fun. We are this close to one of each (and, also, so dangerous!)
Black is pretty much my uniform
Love the dresses, but so SHORT! What about us tallish broads with field-hockey thighs?
