Wear a black dress…

This week, I was charged with finding a black dress for an event where all attendees were asked to wear black. Do you know how hard this assignment was for me?! I mean, it’s not like I don’t love a black dress, especially accessorized correctly. I’ve even written about it in the past (see Dressing up a little black dress). But about two years ago I made a promise to myself that I wouldn’t buy black, as I wanted to introduce more color into my closet. For two years now, I’ve turned away from most black clothing (which is ironic because I’m wearing a black top as I write this post.) Of course, there’s always an abundance of black clothing in stores, so finding something wasn’t hard. But getting myself to the point of making that purchase was difficult difficult because… it was black. I was breaking a rule.

But, then. I had a chance to do my favorite thing: accessorize. I went back and forth between boring black pumps, shoes with a little gold in them, and a bright colored shoe. For the event, I opted to go for closed toed shoes (with a little gold) because it’s still too cold to wear open-toed shoes in Philadelphia and New York. But the next time I wear the dress  I’ll do it with brightly colored sandals or fancy flip-flops.

As for accessories, I grabbed a brightly colored wrap for warmth and glamour and paired it up with gold jewelry… and you’ll just have to wait to see the final look in my event review next Friday.

(By-the-way, I love the dress I selected. I am so going back and purchasing it in other colors!)

Thanks to Bounce and Devries for providing a stipend for my new black dress.
