Office Max announces Teacher Appreciation Days

So, you probably get that I appreciate teachers. And I really appreciate the effort, love, devotion and money that teachers give to their classrooms. Yes. Sigh. Money.

The National Association of Educators recently found that

each year, teachers spend an estimated $1,000 out of their own pockets on school supplies, according to National Education Association. Furthermore, OfficeMax’s 2011 Teacher Appreciation Survey found that nearly seven in ten (68%) Americans had at least one grade-school teacher who made a positive impact on their lives today. This bond is what drives the majority of parents (84%) to show their appreciation for their child’s teacher by giving thoughtful gifts (53%), buying essential classroom supplies (43%), or giving a gift card to a store or restaurant (24%). Other parents choose to donate their time by volunteering (47%) in the classroom or on field trips.

In light of the budget cuts facing our nation’s schools, teachers are even more likely to shell out their own dollars to help their classrooms run smoothly this year.

OfficeMax’s 2011 Teacher Appreciation Survey also found that Americans recognize even more can be done by schools and parents to help teachers do their jobs more effectively. Nearly half of parents think that well-behaved students (54%) and students prepared for school each day (49%) would make a difference. While, about one in three (32%) parents believe volunteering their time can go a long way in the classroom. [And this is where I insert into the quote that that number needs to go UP!] Others look to the school administration and believe having necessary school supplies (45%) and better technology in the classroom (37%) would help teachers succeed.  [Yes! Yes! Yes! the administration has a lot of ways to spend money, and this one should be obvious. There are almost always other areas to cut costs. But technology and classroom supplies, things that directly benefit the students should be way up high on the list.]

Well, tell your teacher-friends that this Sunday and Monday are Teacher Appreciation days at Office Max. MaxPerks Rewards for Teachers members will receive a special tote with 20% off everything they can fit inside the bag, free giveaways (while supplies last) and other perks.

So. Teachers. Be there before school starts and get your perks! I know how much you deserve it.

Thanks for the info. Loved your “Who We Are” section! You’re a really good writer. I wouldn’t normally read details about a family I don’t even know, but it was entertaining. (By the way, I would’ve shared this comment in that section, but the comments were closed.)
